Empties // September 2014

empties 9 14 rottenotter rotten otter blog L'Oreal Micellar Water // This is the second bottle of this micellar water I've finished and I would definitely buy it again. Although it doesn't work as well as Bioderma, it's a great cheaper alternative and one that I can easily buy in Asda or Boots and I don't have to order it online. It doesn't irritate or sting my eyes and removes every last scrap of make-up although I only really use it to remove my eye make-up. The only downside is the packaging and I find it quite hard to control how much product comes out.

Modern Apothecary Lavender & Sea Salt Hand Wash // Now I don't normally include hand soap in my monthly favourites as I usually just use a cheap one from Asda. For the bathroom though I like to use something a little bit more luxurious feeling and I always try to pick up a bottle when I go past TKMaxx. The soap in question is from Modern Apothecary and usually costs about £4 but I've found a couple on the sale shelf before. Not only does the bottle look perfect sitting on the window sill but the scents are amazing. This one I've finished is Lavender & Sea Salt and I'm currently using a Sandalwood scented one. The bottles are huge and they really do last a long time.

NUDE Perfect Cleansing Oil //
I really wanted to fall in love with this cleansing oil as so many people have raved about it but I just couldn't. I don't really know why I don't like it, I think there was just too much hype around it so even though it works and it never irritated my skin, it just wasn't that good, you know?! It's also pretty expensive! I'm currently using the Origins cleansing oil which is cheaper and works just as well in my opinion.

balance Me Cleanse And Smooth Face Balm //  I really love this cleanser and I'm sad to see it empty although it did last about a month longer than I expected it to. This discovery is thanks to Caroline Hirons and I can see myself repurchasing this again and again. It has tiny oat particles in it which help to exfoilate the skin but it does not irritate the skin, even my extremely sensitive skin. This is one I have to take a little bit more time and extra effort to make sure I've removed it properly otherwise it can feel like a residue has been left behind. Once I've taken it off though my skin is always left incredibly smooth and dry patches have disappeared. Although I've been using it throughout the summer, it's a good one to use in the winter when my skin is a lot drier. I'm trying not to buy any new products until I've finished what I already have so a repurchase will have to wait. I have got a mini tube hiding away at the back of my cupboard which I'm trying to ignore as I'm saving it for when I go away in November.

Philip Kingsley No Scent No Colour Conditioner // The consistency of this always surprises me as it's very thin but is incredibly moisturising. A little goes a long way so this bottle lasted a lot longer than the shampoo did. I'm not rushing out to repurchase but if I saw it on offer then I might get it again.

Andrew Barton S.O.S Help Me! Conditioner // This is a conditioner that I've repurchased so many times over the years as it's cheap and I can buy it in Asda. It also works incredibly well and smells great.

Radox Cherry Blast Shower Gel // Another amazing smelling product and the perfect thing to use in the summer. I'm not sure why it took me so long to buy it despite smelling it a lot when doing my weekly food shop. I will definitely be buying another bottle at some point as well as trying the other scents.

Vera Wang Lovestruck Perfume // I used this perfume constantly when I bought it last summer but then got a bit bored of it after a few months. I want to try and use up everything I have in my beauty collection so I brought this back out after finishing Marc Jacobs Honey. I completely fell in love with it again and wish I hadn't finished it so quickly. The notes are tuberose, lotus blossom, pink guava, mandarin, woods and musk. I will probably buy another bottle at some point especially as it's only £20 from Fragrance Direct. I'm also tempted with the other versions of Lovestruck.

REN Clearcalm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser // Despite the good packaging, I just cannot get to the last bit of this cleanser without completely tearing it apart. I liked this when I first bought it but since then my skin has changed and is less oily, more dry and sensitive so it just tends to irritate it.

Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel // I think I've bought this shower gel every year at Christmas since it came out. Last Christmas I bought two bottles in the sale and this is the first one I've finished. I will probably get sick of the scent at some point but at the moment I'm still loving it.

TRESemme Heat Defence Styling Spray // When it comes to heat defence sprays I'm not too fussed on what I use so I tend to use cheaper brands. I liked the spray on this Tresemme one and as far as I can tell it works but am currently using one from L'Oreal.

  1. I've heard a lot about the L'Oreal Micellar water and I'm currently using the Garnier one, I wonder how they compare.
