Beauty Box: Birchbox December 2013

Noabay Moisturising Milk Cleanser // I'm not really a fan of milk cleansers, especially ones that you aren't meant to wash away, instead you just wipe it off. I think this one will be going into my giveaway box.

BeeKind Body Lotion // I really love the lemon verbena scent and the formula is really nice. If I didn't have so many body moisturisers to use then I'd buy the full size of this straight away.

Number 4 Non-Aerosol Hairspray // This is a really interesting product and would be perfect for travel as it's tiny. Excited to see how well it works and if the crunch-free hold actually works.

Nail Rock Nail Velvet // I'm really pleased I got the velvet version as I know I wouldn't have used the glitter one. I'll be testing it out at the weekend so I'll be sure to blog how they look. I just hope removal isn't too bad!

Lipsy London Glam Fragrance // A mix of orchid, jasmine, peony and incense. Surprisingly I really like the scent of this! It reminds me slightly of Lady Gaga's perfume as they have similar notes. I would think about buying the full size of this especially if I've got Birchbox points to use.

Alima Pure Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow // I'm not a fan of loose eyeshadows so wont be using this one but it's a really pretty colour.

Twistband // It's not often I use normal bobbles anymore as I prefer these twistbands. This one's thinner than the other ones I have which is nice.

I really love the box design and I'm going to re-use it for one of the presents I'm giving. I'm not hugely impressed with the contents though. It's the same as the Glossybox, I was expecting something better with it being the Christmas box.

Beauty Box: Glossybox December 2013*

Yin Yang Skincare Rich Skin Food x2 // This moisturiser nourishes and repairs fine sensitive skin which sums up my skin! The scent of this reminds me of Weleda Skin Food but it feels completely different on the skin. It's lighter and sinks in instantly with a sort of matte feeling.

Wilkinson Sword Intuition Naturals Razor // Although I'll use the razor I think it's a bit strange to include it in a beauty box.

Maybelline New York Volum' Express Colossal Smokey Eye Mascara // I'm always pleased to see a mascara in beauty boxes as I love trying them out. Surprisingly I haven't tried this one from Maybelline before.

Beautiful Movements Cosmetics Nude Lip Gloss // I'm not a huge fan of lip glosses but this feels more like a lip balm and isn't sticky. The colour is also really nice and natural, perfect for a smokey eye.

Seche Nail Polish in Blanc II // Although I wouldn't have picked this shade out myself it's the perfect colour to use for my Christmas nail transfers. I already own one of the nail polishes from Seche vite and although I don't get on with the top coat, these polishes are lovely. They've incredibly glossy and opaque.

Overall I have to say I'm not impressed with the box especially as it's Christmas. Any other month and the box would be ok but I was expecting something a bit more fancier or at least a candy cane or chocolate coins.

NOTD: H&M Stay Golden

H&M Stay Golden gold glitter avon liquorice black creme nail polish notd rottenotter rotten otter blog
Supplies used...
CND Sticky Base Coat
Avon Licorice // two coats
H&M Stay Golden // one coat
CND Speedey Top Coat

This the nail polish combination that I wore for my works Christmas meal. I wore a black dress with a bit of gold beading/detail so thought this was manicure was perfect. Avon Licorice is the perfect black nail polish but it looks like they're not selling it anymore which is a shame. It's opaque in two coats and is extremely glossy, it's the best black I've tried.

I'm not a huge fan of glitter polish, I love the way it looks but hate the removal of it, but I couldn't not use a glitter with it being Christmas.

Mini Reviews 011 // balance Me // Nude // Estee Lauder // Maybelline

mini reviews 009 balace me radiance face oil nude progenius treatment oil estee laudeer advanced night repair eye maybelline colour tattoo pink gold rottenotter rotten otter blog
Balance Me Radiance Face Oil - This face oil has become a staple in helping to heal spots quickly without drying my skin out. This is all thanks to Fee who blogged about it and got me to start using it. It's also great as a normal face oil, it's extremely hydrating and leaves the skin looking nicely dewy. It's 100% natural origin so there's no nasties in it. The rollerball isn't the best packaging so I'm going to get the bottle next time but it is nice for trying it out first. £15 for 10ml rollerball and £30 for 30ml.

Nude ProGenius Treatment Oil - When I bought the Nude Cleansing Oil there was an offer to get a small bottle of the ProGenius Oil for free. This was an offer I could not resist as it had been on my wish list for a long time and the full size is expensive. Unfortunately for my bank balance, I have completely fallen in love with this oil. The majority of the time I've been using a couple of drops mixed in with my moisturiser of choice as I find this is the best way for it to sink in. A couple months back when my eczema flared up on my face and my skin was extremely dry and flaky this oil was the only thing that helped. I still have a lot left as you only need one or two drops so I haven't quite got round to the idea of spending £58 on the full size.

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye - I was given this mini tub of eye cream as a sample when I bought the Advanced Night Repair. For a start I really don't like the smell of this, it smells like it's full of alcohol. I liked that it has more of a gel texture as I get on with gel eye creams better, I don't like anything too heavy and thick. It's been nice to use but I couldn't justify £38 for only 15ml when I haven't fallen in love with it. Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream on the other hand, I would pay the price for.

Maybelline Colour Tattoo In Pink Gold - I was pretty late jumping on the Maybelline Colour Tattoo bandwagon and I'm not really sure why it took me this long as I love cream shadows and use them on a daily basis. I'm so glad I did as they've become some of my favourites. This pink shade is a bit unusual for me as I'm not a huge fan of coloured eyeshadow even if it is only pink. This shade, as the name suggests, has a hint of gold to it and it's the perfect base for a more neutral shadow like Urban Decay Sin or Virgin. The formula is great too, it doesn't crease even without a primer underneath. Since buying this one I've bought several more of the neutral shades which I've already blogged about. £4.99 each.

Mini Reviews 010 : Melvita // Vichy // Origins // Clarins

mini reviews 013 Melvita Vichy Origins Clarins rottenotter rotten otter blog
Melvita Rose Floral Water - I picked this out as it came up as an offer while I was buying something else from Feel Unique and thought I'd try it out as I'd just finished the toner I was using. I have to say I'm quite disappointed by it but luckily I only paid a couple of pounds for this smaller size. This is suited for those who have sensitive skin which I have so I thought it would be perfect. It's almost too delicate and feels like I'm just spraying tab water onto my face. I haven't noticed any benefits when using it and although I'm going to use it up, I will not be buying another bottle or recommend it. £16 for 200ml.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Eye Roll On - This on the other hand, I absolutely love! I hadn't read anything about it but ordered it completely on a whim as I wanted a roller ball eye cream. The roller ball is really cooling and perfect for when I wake up and my eyes are puffy. Also when my hey fever is bad in the summer this really helps to soothe my skin. The product itself is a gel which means it's extremely light on the skin but is still moisturising enough. I don't like heavy eye creams, especially in the mornings, so this is perfect for me. £14.25 for 15ml.

Dr. Andrew Weil For Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Advanced Face Serum - First prize for product with the longest name goes to this serum! I got a generous sized sample of this serum about a year ago and fell in love with instantly. I was able to use it enough to know I definitely wanted to buy the full size. I had a couple of other serums to use first but I finally bought this serum a couple of months ago. I still like it just as much as I did when I first tried it. I use this serum for when my skin needs something soothing but still moisturising and pair it with the moisturiser from the same range. This also helps the appearance of redness which I suffer from because of eczema. £46 for 30ml or £58 for 50ml.

Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil - I've wanted to try one of the Clarins Treatment Oils ever since Kate raved about the Lotus version. I chose Blue Orchid when making my order as I have more dehydrated and dry skin so thought this best suited me although I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. A couple of drops massaged over the face and it feels, and smells, like you're in a spa. I reach for this when I have visible dry patches on my skin as they are instantly soothed and disappear after just one use. For days when my skin isn't so dry, I like to mix a drop or two into my moisturiser for an extra boost as I find it sinks into my skin more easily. This is currently the only facial oil I have in my collection and I'm in no hurry to try something new. The packaging is simple, it looks nice sitting on my dressing table, but also really easy to use and control how much product you're using. I've been using this for a while now and it hardly looks like I've used it and despite the price, it's going to last a really long time making it more affordable. £24 for 30ml.

Christmas Gift Ideas // Beauty Selection Boxes & Perfume

Over the past couple of weeks I've loved watching and reading everyone's Christmas gift guides. A few favourites are Anna's, Lily's, Fleurs, Jenny's and Rebecca's. I don't feel like I could top theirs nor do I want to repeat products already featured. Instead I'm just going to share some of the gifts I'm giving this year.

For a couple of friends I've created beauty selection boxes with a couple of my favourite products that I think they'd like. With this you are able to set a budget which can be as low or high as you want. This can easily be done as part of secret santa which is what I did last year for work. I also made good use of Boots 3 for 2 offer! You can see how I've decorated the front of old Birchboxes here using some washi tape. I filled the boxes with packaging from an Origins order which I saved as I knew I'd use it at some point.

Anyone else still thinking what to put on their Christmas wish lists? I know I've only just finished mine despite it being December. One thing that's always on my wish lists, whether it's Christmas or Birthdays, is perfume. This year it's Escentric Molecule 01 which has been on my list of perfumes to try/buy ever since it was first raved about.

I thought I'd share some of my old favourites, recent buys and new-ish releases. It also gave me a good excuse to get the fairy lights and tinsel out of the cupboard early before we've even bought our tree. We always buy ours later than everyone else it seems but we're getting it and decorating it tomorrow.
gift ideas rottenotter rotten otter blog 4
Thierry Mugler Alien // A rich floral woody amber containing jasmine sambac, wood and white amber.

Taylor Swift Taylor // I'm not a huge fan of the bottle of this perfume, I much prefer the look of her two other perfumes but if the scent is nice then I can look past the design. The fragrance begins with a burst of fresh fruits and flowers, blending luscious lychee and sparkling tangerine with a whisper of magnolia petals. Evoking a sense of femininity, the middle is a blushing bouquet of some of Taylor’s favourite flowers – peonies, hydrangeas and vanilla orchids. Anchoring the base is creamy sandalwood, warmed by an inviting mixture of apricot nectar, cashmere musk and a blend of woods.

Marc Jacobs Honey // Honey opens with a memorable melody of juicy mandarin and pear which is later followed by a passionate heart of white florals, orange blossom and of course, honeysuckle. The added extras of peach, apricot and golden vanilla, create a blissful scent which bathes the skin in a sense of warmth and appreciation.
gift ideas rottenotter rotten otter blog 5
Thierry Mugler Angel // I love the magnetic lid to this perfume and that the bottle is refillable. A perfume that I think the majority of people love! Described as an oriental vanilla fragrance, Angel is a mix which includes top notes of Melon, Coconut and Mandarin Orange, middle notes of Honey, Blackberry, Orchid, Peach and Rose and base notes of Tonka Bean, Amber, Patchouli, Musk, Vanilla, Dark Chocolate and Caramel

Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Noir // On a Christmas note the pink packaging reminds me of the glass baubles we have. If you've wanted to try this fragrance along with the original Viva La Juicy then you can buy a rollerball which is just under £10 to see if you like them which is what I did before buying this one. Sensual and arresting, Viva la Juicy Noir is a succulent blend of ripe berry notes, sultry amber and bright gourmand accents that explore the seductive side of the classic Viva la Juicy fragrance.

Elie Saab La Parfum // Available from Feel Unique is a gift set containing a 50ml and 10ml bottle for the same price as the 50ml on it's own and it comes in a beautiful box. The top note opens on a sun-kissed, radiant orange blossom, as an ode to light. The middle note develops into a jasmine absolute, a legendary flower in perfumery, imparting voluptuousness and elegance to the fragrance. It combines with a pure, modern patchouli heart. The base note unfolds into a cedar woody accord adding character and a lingering trail, while the honey rose envelops the composition in a beautifully addictive notegift ideas rottenotter rotten otter blog 6

Finally It's Mine

by terry baume de rose lip balm rottenotter rotten otter blog
Finally the time has come and I can open this little pot of goodness, the By Terry Baume De Rose. I added this lip balm to my Space NK order back in October when there was a really good discount code and free delivery offer on. I was half way through Nuxe Reve De Miel though so I told myself I had to finish it before I could open the By Terry. It took all my will power not to open it and just try it once.

I used this for the first time last night and I instantly knew why there is such a hype around this product. It is a dream to use; the packaging feels expensive and luxurious, the rose scent is divine and it makes your lips feel incredibly soft. Yes it is incredibly expensive but perfect to treat yourself to.

Double Shampoo

double shampoo rottenotter rotten otter blog I double cleanse my face on a regular basis without really thinking about it. How had I never thought about double shampoo? We cleanse our face first to get rid of make-up or dirt and then a second to cleanse our skin so why not a first shampoo to get rid of product build up, dirt and grease and then a second to cleanse the scalp? For the past month or so I've been double shampooing each time I wash my hair and it's really made a difference to how my hair and scalp feel.

First off the hair by my scalp feels lighter once dried. I always thought my hair was clean after washing before, who wouldn't?, but it's never felt this clean and fresh before. Double shampooing hasn't dried my scalp out which I thought it could have especially as I have eczema on my scalp. In fact it's been the opposite. Double shampooing seems to have made my eczema even better!

For the first shampoo I just grab any shampoo from my cupboard but I always follow up with the Philip Kingsley Itchy/Flaky Scalp Shampoo to help with my eczema.

Another bonus is my hair stays cleaner for even longer. I've probably been hiding under a rock somewhere while everyone else has been double shampooing for years but it's new to me and working so I'm going to carry on.

Project Sample Use Up 012

project sample use up 012 rottenotter rotten otter blog La Roche-Posay Toleriane Soothing Protective Skincare - From the couple of uses I got out of this mini tube the formula felt a little too thin for my dry skin so I wont be buying the full size.

Jo Hansford Expert Colour Care Intensive Masque - This was a really nice mask to use and made my hair feel extremely soft. It's quite expensive though, around £25, so I don't think I'd buy the full size. There's cheaper hair masks that still give great results.

Lubin Paris Nuit De Longchamp When trying a perfume sample for the first time I always spray it on a tissue first just in case I don't like it and don't want my skin/clothes smelling of it for the rest of the day. Luckily I did this with this perfume as I really hated the scent! It's a powdery old lady scent and needless to say I will not be buying this as I couldn't even use the sample.

Acqua Di Parma Colonia Assoluta - Another perfume that I just don't like! Luckily only a tiny sample bottle so no money wasted.

L'Occitane Shine Mask - I really liked this hair mask, even more than the Jo Hansford mask. I have a million other hair masks to use already and again, this is £20 so not cheap.

Aromatherapy Associates Revive Morning Bath & Shower Oil - I really hoped not to fall in love with this bath oil but I did! It's expensive but I think I'm going to buy the sampler set so I can try the other scents.

Espa Fitness Bath Oil - Eeek I've finished the last bottle from the Espa bath oil set! I really loved these and will be buying a full bottle of one of them at some point. They're perfect for this time of year as well when you just want to relax in a hot bath in the evening and your skin is dry.

Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment - I really liked this hair oil but it doesn't beat Moroccan Oil for me.

Origins Modern Friction - I'm not a fan of exfoliators in general as I feel like they just scratch and irritate my sensitive skin. This was quite a nice one though as it wasn't too harsh and the formula is creamy. I wont be buying the full size though as I know I just wouldn't use it.

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Riche Soothing Protective Cream x2 - As the name suggests, this version of Toleriane is thicker and I really liked how it felts on my skin. I won't be buying the full size as I have enough moisturisers to last me life time, or a least for the next few months.

The Repurchases 002

the repurchases 002 rottenotter rotten otter blog
With the amount of products I own and have tried, I always thought I never repurchased products but looking back over my first The Repurchases post and this one, turns out I do. All of this lot are the first repurchases but I can see myself buying them all again and again.

After falling in love with a mini tub of Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm I tried to wait till I'd finished my current balm cleanser until repurchasing but I failed. With a discount code on Feel Unique I couldn't help it and took the opportunity to buy it slightly cheaper.

I never would have thought to try a mens shaving cream for my legs but this one from Bluebeard Revenge is one of the few products that doesn't irritate my skin. I just can't use the cheap shaving foams you can buy from the super market, they irritate my eczema. It's about £10 for the tub and lasts a decent amount of time, you only need a small amount and it lathers up really well. I also love the soapy scent!

Orly Polishield is the only top coat I've repurchased so far and that's for a reason. It makes your polish dry incredibly quickly and makes your nails look like a gel manicure instead of a do it yourself.

I'll be repurchasing the Philip Kingsley Itchy/Flaky Scalp Toner for the third time soon as I've nearly finished this bottle. I apply this after I've washed my hair and towel dried it but before I apply leave-in conditioner and oil to it. There are certain areas of my scalp that I usually get eczema so I don't apply it all over but it works miracles. Usually my hair is itchiest while it's drying but I don't have that problem anymore when using it. This has been a life saver along with the Itchy/Flaky Shampoo, another one I'll be repurchases for a long time. It smells like apples witch is an added bonus.

The Korres Guava Shower Gel is a must have in my bathroom cabinet. It smells like summer in a bottle which is perfect when it's freezing outside and you want something to remind you of hotter weather.

These three Urban Decay Eye Shadows are the first eye shadow repurchases ever. I've finished eye shadows before but never bought them again, I've always gone for something new. These three shades; Verve, Sin and Virgin are the three shades that I've finished out of my Naked palettes which just shows how much I like them.

Mini Reviews 009 : Embryolisse // Queen // Origins // Yu-Be

mini reviews 012 embroyllise Queen Origins Yu-Be rottenotter rotten otter
Embroylisse Lait-Crème Concentrè - This is the cream I reach for when the eczema on my face has flared up and I want something simple that doesn't aggravate it. It doesn't really do anything fancy, it just moisturises your skin which is all I want and need when my eczema is bad. It's not one I'd use on an everyday basis as it's quite thick but is perfect for when I have visible flaky dry skin. On a side note I love the metal packaging and the fact I'll be able to use a tube squeezer to get every last bit of product out. £18.50 for 75ml.

Queen Eye Restore Cream* - I haven't really been a fan of eye creams up until recently after trying a couple that I really like. My eyes are very sensitive and I find a lot of eye creams are too thick which seems to cause milia, those tiny little white bumps. This one by Queen feels very light on the skin but is still hydrating enough. It's sort of a gel-cream and sinks into the skin really well. I also haven't noticed any milia pop up whilst using this for the past couple of months. The packaging is perfect, it has a pump which means I can control how much product I use and I don't waste any. Another bonus of the packaging is that you can see how much you've used and when it will run out. There's nothing worse than thinking you have a lot of product left and then it suddenly runs out because you can't actually see what's left. I've been using this in and off since June and I've used about half of it so far so it's going to last a long time. £24.50 for 25ml.

Origins Make A Difference Plus + Rejuvenating Treatment - This treatment is targeted at dry and dehydrated skin which my skin annoyingly ticks both boxes. Although it doesn't mention anything about helping breakouts, it really does and I always notice a difference in how my skin looks when I use this. The more hydrated my skin is, the less spots I get and it just sort of evens out the look of my skin. The texture is completely different to other moisturisers I have, it's sort of a gel-cream hybrid which means it sinks into the skin wonderfully. On the days that I use this, which is a couple of times a week depending on how my skin is, I use it in place of my moisturiser after I've applied serum. If I use a moisturising serum, like Caudalie Vinosource SOS,  then I find this treatment enough hydration for my dry skin. This is a staple in my skin care routine that I know I'll be repurchasing for a long time. I also really want to try more products from the range especially the serum. £34 for 50ml.

Yu-Be Moisturising Skin Cream - I decided to buy the full size of this after getting a sample size in a Birchbox and finishing the sample in a matter of days. For some reason I really like the camphor scent which I find sort of calming. If you don't like the scent though it goes away completely after a minute or two. Yu-Be is an incredibly moisturising cream which I like to use on my elbows, hands and feet which are the driest parts of my body. It's definitely more of a cream unlike Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour cream. I bought mine from Birchbox using some points but you can buy it from Boots, Cult Beauty etc. Prices vary in size and where you buy it from - £10-£20.

Skin Care Diary: November 2013

Through out each month I'll be keeping a skin care diary and jotting down what I use on an every day basis. At the end of the month I'll tally up what has been used the most and share the products with you.

This month the eczema on my face has been at an all time high so I've really taken my skin care routine down to basics, even less products than last month. I've also been using very gentle products like the Weleda Baby Calendula Cream and the RMK balm cleanser. Kiehl's MRC has been a star product in giving my skin the hydration that it needs.

Beauty Box: Love Me Beauty October 2013

love me beauty November 2013 beauty box rottenotter rotten otter blog
I decided to try out the Love Me Beauty beauty box to see what is was like.  With this box you can pick between a few options so you're more likely to receive products you will like and use. The only downside is what happens if you don't like any of the options which sort of happened with me picking the October box to start with. I wasn't that impressed with any of the options but picked this one as I didn't want to receive a surprise box.

Anatomicals Help The Paw Hand Cream - I've tried a couple of products from Anatomicals before and haven't liked them so it was a shame to see the brand in the box. This hand cream is ok - nothing special.

Lord & Berry Smudgeproof Eye Liner in Smoke - Smoke is a really nice taupe shade and it lives up to it's name, once it dries it is very hard to remove! It's a nice alternative to black if you want something a little less harsh.

Amie Eye Make-up Remover - This eye make-up remover contains perfume which really irritates my eyes and face so I don't think I'll be using it. The scent reminds me of some La Rocha-Posay products which also irritate my skin.

Balm Balm Indulge Bath & Shower Oil - Again another product that I just can't use! Seems to be a running theme with this box! I've tried the Balm Balms bath oil before and loved it so was really pleased to see another one in this box until I smelt it. I really can't stand the scent of the patchouli in it.

Weleda Millet Nourishing Shampoo - I haven't tried this one yet but I have tried the Replenishing shampoo from Weleda before so I'm sure I'll like this one.

Beauty Box: Glossybox November 2013

glossybox november 2013 beauty box rottenotter rotten otter blog
Elegant Touch Rapid Dry For Nails - I've tried this sort of spray before but from a different brand and it worked quite well. It's an oil in spray form which is what makes your nail polish dry quicker. Pleased to have this as I hate waiting for polish to dry especially right before going to bed.

Yves Rocher Cacao & Orange Hand Cream - As the name suggests, this smells incredible and good enough to eat. It's quite a light hand cream so it sinks in quickly, a good one to keep on my desk at work, but is still very moisturising. It sort of leaves a matte feeling which I quite like.

Agese Oils Face Glow - Recently I've become a huge fan of face oils so excited to try this one out. It's a lotus and peppermint oil so it smells really nice. You only need one or two drops and sinks in nicely into the skin.

Vichy Idealia Life Serum & Cream - I've wanted to try this serum since it came out but I've put off buying it as I already have a couple of other serums to use up first. Luckily a good sized sample has been included in this months Glossybox! Also included was the smoothing and illuminating cream to match but from using it once, I'm not a fan of. It's packed full of shimmer and once on the skin sort of turns your face into a glitter ball.

Emite Micronized Eye Shadow in Dams - I'm not a huge fan of black eye shadows so would have preferred a different shade. I sort of feel like once you've got one matte black shadow you don't need anymore. This one is nicely pigmented though and I like the packaging.

Empties: November 2013

november 2013 empties products I have finished used up rottenotter rotten otter blog 2
Bioderma Micellar Solution - Another bottle of Bioderma finished! Oh how I love this stuff. It takes off make-up easily and doesn't irritate my sensitive skin, I can't ask for anything else. I've tried quite a lot of Micellar waters recently and I still haven't found a better one than this. I'm fully stocked with a couple of Bioderma back ups so no need to buy a bottle at the moment.

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub - I've been through so many of these I've lost count! The smell reminds me of coke with lime and is a dream to use along with the shower gel and body butter. It's a great body scrub as well and leaves your skin feeling moisturised. I already have another one to use so no need to repurchase just yet but I always do.

Nuxe Micellar Cleansing Water I really did not enjoy using this micellar water as I think the rose in it irritated my skin and I got little patches of eczema around my eyes from it. I didn't really connect the eczema with this until I was nearly finished with the bottle which was annoying as I could have prevented it. Although this removes make-up well I wont be buying another bottle.

Soap & Glory Clean On Me Shower Gel - I'd ran out of hand soap for in the bathroom and had this lying around so decided to give it a try. Since it's a giant bottle and I only used about half a pump when washing my hands it lasted such a long time so really worth the price. It's a very moisturising shower gel so it felt lovely on my hands especially as they're quite dry at the moment. I will definitely be buying another bottle and using it as a hand soap.

Korres Guava Shower Gel - Oh how I love this shower gel! It has such an amazing scent which reminds me of summer and going abroad on holiday. Despite it not being summer anymore I'm still using it as it's such a lovely scent for the mornings. I think this is my second mini bottle but I already have and am using the full size of it. Korres shower gels in general are a pleasure to use as they lather nicely and feel very moisturising on the skin.

Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Body Milk - I think this body milk from Soap & Glory was in last years Boots Star Gift. I loved the smoothie scent when I first started using it but after a while I got stick of it and the bottle is huge! As far as the actual product went, it was ok but nothing amazing and I wouldn't buy it again.

Lush Twilight Shower Gel - I discovered my hidden stash of Lush shower gels from last Christmas while tidying my room the other month and have been using them a lot. Especially the Twilight shower gel which is a perfect scent for this time of year. It's a mix of lavender and malt and is very relaxing for in the evenings. I have two more bottles to use before I'm completely out and have to wait till Lush brings it back, which they really need to do!
november 2013 empties products I have finished used up rottenotter rotten otter blog 1

balance Me Hydrating Rose Otto & Shea Butter SalveI loved the rose scent of this lip balm and it was nice for during the day as it has quite a glossy finish. It wasn't moisturising enough for my very dry lips though and because of the thin formula, it didn't last too long on the lips. I wouldn't buy another one of these.

Nubar Almond Cuticle Care Oil - The scent of this cuticle oil is amazing! It smells like marzipan which I love although there is a variety of scents to choose from if you don't like it. This oil comes with a brush and a pipette but I found the pipette a lot easier to use. It meant I could apply the oil to my nails even if the polish hadn't dried completely which I wouldn't have been able to do with the brush. I have a couple of other oils to use before buying a new one but I'll be buying another bottle of this and maybe trying a different scent.

Aromatherapy Associates Revive Body Gel I absolutely fell in love with this body gel as I hate applying moisturiser and most of the time it irritates my eczema. This sunk in immediately without the heavy feeling body butters leave behind but was still moisturising. The scent was also really nice and refreshing and I used it after a bath with the Revive Bath & Shower Oil. Although I did really love this body gel I'm having a hard time even thinking of spending £30 on a body moisturiser.

All For Eve Eve's Balm - I liked the scent of this but the actually balm wasn't that impressive. It made my dry patches disappear but it took forever to sink in even if I applied a tiny amount. I much prefer the Liz Earle Super Balm to this.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Perfume - Oh how sad I am to see this is empty! Daisy is one of my favourite perfumes and this is my second bottle I've finished and I'm still not fed up with it. I'll definitely be buying another at some point although I do want to try one of the variations of it as well.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream - Despite saying earlier that body moisturisers usually irritate my eczema and make it worse, this is one of the exceptions! It doesn't have a scent or any fragrance in it and it sinks in immediately leaving my skin feeling incredibly soft and dry patches are gone. The only downside to this is how quickly I went through the tube but if it works and my eczema is reduced then I don't mind paying a bit more. I will be buying the largest size possible straight away!

Space NK Laughter Perfume - Top notes of bergamot, grapefruit and lime are invigorated by the tonic effect of juniper berry, angelica root and verbena with refreshing aromatic notes of rosemary, fennel and coriander. The sensual, woody base of patchouli, amber and musk is enlivened by a sweet, spicy bite of ginger. If this perfume wasn't included in a Latest In Beauty fragrance box I never would have thought to try it but I really liked it. It's a unique fragrance in my collection and one that reminds me of the perfumes my mum wears. This is an autumn/winter scent for me and I can see myself buying a full size bottle in the future.

Soap & Glory Thick & Fast Mascara - I only used this mascara once and hated it immediately. The wand is huge and the bristles on the brush are really spaced out so it didn't coat my lashes very well. Instead it clumped them together and just looked a mess. I definitely will not be buying this again.

Nubar Diamont Top Coat - Again this is another favourite of mine. It did get slightly gloopy towards the end, nowhere near as bad as Seche Vite, and I hate to decant the very last bit of it as the brush doesn't reach the bottom of the bottle. Despite those two points, it dries incredibly quickly and makes your polish look like gel. I always get people asking where I had my nails done when I use this despite using normal nail polish and painting them myself. I have a lot of top coats to get through before I can buy another bottle of this but I will be.

Taaj Hand Cream - I liked this hand cream when I first started using it but after a couple of weeks I started to find tiny particles of what felt like plastic in the cream which I didn't like and felt like it was scratching my skin. I put up with it a couple of times but it was getting worse so I stopped using it. Needless to say I won't be buying another one of these!

Update 001

saturday night 23.11.2013 rottenotter rotten otter blog new bed rottenotter rotten otter blog 2 new bed rottenotter rotten otter blog 1
For some reason I've been having a hard time blogging this past month or two. It's not that I can't think of what to post, I've got a huge list of ideas and posts in my draft folder. Instead I just can't seem to find the time. When I get home from work all I want to do is wrap up in my duvet and read a good book or catch up on tv. Not sit at my desk working on my laptop. The light has also been horrible in the mornings the past couple of weeks which is when I'm able to take photos before work. Here's to hoping I'm able to get back into blogging properly this weekend!

In better news I'm getting a new bed! I've had my, now old, bed for about eight years and the mattress has completely worn away so the past month or so it feels like I've been sleeping on bare springs. This morning was spent moving out the old frame and creating a space for a brand spanking new double bed. My old bed was a single and I cannot wait to be able to stretch out a bit more. It also means my monster of a cat cannot take up the whole bed when he decides to sleep on it!

How is it going to be December 1st on Sunday?! This years has flown by but I cannot wait to get our Christmas tree and decorate the house.

Beauty Box: Birchbox November 2013

birchbox november 2013 beauty box rottenotter rotten otter blog 2 birchbox november 2013 beauty box rottenotter rotten otter blog
Laura Mercier Ambre Vanille Body Butter - I would have prefered the Fresh Fig scent but I'm really happy to see this mini body butter in the box. I've wanted to try the Laura Mercier bath and body range for such a long time and so far, this product does not disappoint. It's light and sinks in straight away but feels incredibly moisturising. I can see myself buying a full size of this with my Birchbox points but as this is quite a sickly sweet scent I'd go for the fig version.

Weleda Replenishing Oat Shampoo - I never would have thought to try a shampoo from Weleda but I do love their skin care products as well as bath and body. This version of their shampoo is for dry and damaged hair which reduces breakage. I've gotten two uses from this mini tube but haven't been able to try it for long enough to see if it irritates the eczema on my scalp. It did make my hair feel clean and soft when I did use it though.

Chella Highlighter Pencil - I really like the idea of these highlighter pens but I have extremely pale skin and these skin tone shades always look too orange and obvious on my skin. I prefer a pinker pencil like Benefit Eye Bright. I think this pencil will be going into my little giveaway box.

Lila'lli Lip Collision in Carrie - I haven't really been impressed with the lipsticks that have been in previous boxes but I really like this one. It's a lipstick and lipgloss duo in a gorgous vampy plum-red which is perfect for winter. The lipgloss is nice as well, not sticky and very pigmented, it could even be worn on it's own. I think I'm going to wear this on my work Christmas night out!

English Laundry Signature Perfume - This perfume is a mix of quince, jasmine petals and musk and is quite nice but I don't think I'll be buying the full size.

As as added bonus a couple of sachets of Pukka tea and a Birchbox pencil sharpener.

NOTD: Sally Hansen Zip It! Nail Polish Strips

sally hansen nail polish strips zip it! rottenotter rotten otter blog
Today I'm sharing the last set of Sally Hansen Nail Polish Strips that I have. I've been waiting for Fragrance Direct to start selling nice designs and they finally have so I'll be making an order soon but for now here is Zip It!

I tried to make it look like the zip lines up but it was quite hard to do as I was mixing up the sizes. It looks pretty good on this hand but my right hand, not so much. Application was easy just like the last set but it seemed to take longer to dry as I had a bit of lifting at the edges after pulling my tights up. Removal was easy again, I just used the Bourjois nail polish remover pot.

Project Sample Use Up 011

Bioderma Micellar Solution - Do I really have to say how much I love this? That's a given isn't it. I got this tiny bottle in the September Birchbox and I was so happy to see it there. I only use this to take off my eye make-up so I can get three uses out of it which is perfect. You can also top it up easily once it's empty which is what I'll be doing. I have a couple of back ups waiting to be used so no need to repurchase just yet!

Alpha-H Absolute Eye Complex - I really loved this eye cream when I first started using it but I've since started using the Caudalie Premier Cru The Eye Cream which I like even more. This is a gel which I really liked as it never felt heavy even if I applied a little bit too much product and it sunk in pretty quickly. I do really like this eye cream but as I've said, I prefer the Caudalie one which I'm going to buy once I've used up the other eye creams I have.

REN Gycolatic Radiance Renewal Mask - I've wanted to try this for such a long time but with my skin being so sensitive I've kept this little sample at the back of my skin care stash. Not wanting the mask to go off I used it on my forehead which is the least sensitive part of my face. I noticed a difference even after the first time using it, my skin just looked fresher and brighter. I'd like to buy the full size at some point but for now, overall, my skin is still way too sensitive for it.

Dior Multi Perfection Cream - I really liked how this cream felt on my skin. It left it feeling very silky almost like how a silicone primer leaves your skin. It was heavily perfumed though which my skin doesn't like. It's also very expensive so I won't be buying the full size.

Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm - I was really hoping I'd be able to keep this mini pot for travel when I buy the full size but after the second use it completely shattered and fell apart. Although I absolutely loved how this made my skin look and feel, the packaging really puts me off buying the full size. Do I want to pay £35 for it to then break a few days later?

Espa Lift & Firm Intensive Eye Serum - I've never tried an eye serum before so this was new to me. As it was very watery it was quite hard to apply and I don't think it really did anything to my eye area. I still have another sample tube to use but I don't think I'll be buying the full size.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar H x2 - I'm not really a fan of La Roche-Posay moisturisers as I think the perfume in it has been irritating and breaking out my skin and this was the same. I also didn't find it moisturising enough. I wouldn't buy the full size.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar M - I liked how matte this made my skin feel and it was a nice light moisturiser to use during the day in the summer but again I think the fragrance in it irritated my skin.

Liz Earle Daily Eye Repair - I really liked this eye cream and the tiny tube surprisingly lasted a really long time! Again, I much prefer the Caudalie eye cream.

Current Favourites 001

current favourites 001 rottenotter rotten otter blog
I stopped posting montlhy favourites in August so I thought it was about time I shared my current favourites. There's been a couple of products that I've reached for a lot more than others lately.

Firstly is a mask that has quickly become one of my favourites. With the weather continuously getting colder my skin gets drier so this hydrating mask from Aveda is an essential. I simply apply a thick layer after cleansing and leave it on for about 15 minutes and rinse away any excess. My skin is left feeling and looking a lot less dry and I find serum and moisturiser sinks in a lot better after using this.

Seventeen Doll'd Up Mascara is an unexpected favourite as I only bought it because I had a discount voucher from Boots and only ended up paying a couple of pounds for it. I really like the curved plastic wand and it holds a curl really well. It works really well on my bottom lashes as well and doesn't smudge or flake off.

The Super Facialist By Una Brennan Miracle Makeover Facial Oil is another one that has become a favourite very quickly. Even just after the first use I knew it was a great product. You apply this to dry skin before you cleanse and massage into the skin, rinse away and follow up with your usual cleanser. It does leave an oily residue on the skin, which is removed with a cleanser, it really helps to hydrate the skin and makes dry patches disappear.

The Origins No Puffery Cooling Mask has been the perfect thing to soothe my eyes as I had a really bad cold last month and they were incredibly puffy. I also really want to buy the roll on version to keep on my bedside table or in my bag.

Finally another skin care product that has become my go to serum: Origins Mega Mushroom Skin Relief Serum. I fell in love with this when I was given a tiny sample pot of it and finally I have the full size. This soothes my skin as well as keeps it hydrated and reduces redness.

Brand Over View: balance Me

It's not often I try a lot of products from the same brand at the same time but recently I've bought a couple of balance Me products so thought I'd share my thoughts.

Rose Otto Body Cream - This was a nice little freebie with an order and a good sized one as well. I love rose scented body products and this one doesn't disappoint. It isn't an artificial rose scent which I was really pleased about. It's a lightweight cream that sinks into the skin immediately but is still very moisturising. I'm a big fan of this and can see myself finishing it pretty quickly! The full size is £18 for 200ml or you can buy this 30ml tube for £6.

Rose Otta Body Wash - I've gone through so many bottles of this shower gel as it has a proper rose scent, nothing artificial or old lady. It also lathers really nicely and makes a great bubble bath. It's not the cheapest to use on an everyday basis but nice for a treat every now and again. £4.50 for 55ml, £10 for 100ml and £12.25 for 260ml.

Stellar Face Balm - This all purpose balm is great for everything from lips to elbows. A few months back I had incredibly dry eyebrows thanks to eczema and nothing, including Mario Badescu Control Cream, was working. I added this to my order just to try it and it worked wonders. The skin underneath my eyebrows was really flaky and a bit of this really helped to soothe the skin. The mini tub is perfect for trying it out for the first time but it also lasts a really long time and great to keep in your bag. £5 for 7ml and £18 for 50ml.

Radiance Facial Oil -  This is one of my favourite facial oils as it works amazingly well at healing spots as a spot treatment. It's also great as a normal face oil, it's extremely hydrating and leaves the skin looking dewy. It's 100% natural origin so there's no nasties in it. The rollerball isn't the best packaging so I'm going to get the bottle next time but it is nice for trying it out first. £15 for 10ml rollerball and £30 for 30ml.

Wonder Eye Cream - This eye cream has become one of my favourites recently. It feels extremely light on the skin but really helps to hydrate the skin. I've had dry flaky patches around my eyes (noticing a theme here with my skin??) and this helped to make it disappear. I also haven't gotten any milia from using it which I have done from other eye creams. £14 for 10ml and £20 for 15ml.

Skin Bright Hydrating Face Mist - This toner reminds me of the Ren Hydrating Mist that they're not selling at the moment which is the reason I bought it in the first place. It contains hyaluronic acid which realy helps to add moisture back into the skin unlike other toners which can dry the skin out. You can also use it as a make-up setting spray. £20 for 60ml.

Cleanse & Smooth Face Balm - I bought this cleanser simply because Caroline Hirons raved about it and I wasn't disappointed. After the first time I used it I was concerned at how my sensitive skin would react to the oat particles but I didn't have to worry. It's very gentle and despite how sensitive my skin is I can use this on an every day basis. The oat particles help to exfoliate dry patches and the cleansing balm itself is very moisturising. It leaves a slight film on the skin, not exactly greasy just moisturised, so it's perfect for winter. I use a muslin cloth and warm water to remover the balm. £4 for 15ml, £10 for 40ml and £20 for 125ml.

Skin Care Diary: October 2013

Through out each month I'll be keeping a skin care diary and jotting down what I use on an every day basis. At the end of the month I'll tally up what has been used the most and share the products with you.
skin care diary october 2013 rottenotter rotten otter blog
Before I tallied up which products I'd used the most this past month, I thought it would be very similar to Septembers pickings but actually only two are the same. This month my skin has been a lot drier thanks to the change in weather and it's also been a lot more sensitive. Quite a lot of days this month I haven't even cleansed, only applied moisturiser, as my skin was that sensitive. Despite my skin being so dry I had a couple of horrible break outs and pulled in the big guns, Mario Badescu Drying Lotion.

Empties: October 2013

october 2013 empties products I have used up finished rottenotter rotten otter blog 1 october 2013 empties products I have used up finished rottenotter rotten otter blog 2
Korres Fig Shower Gel - I love the scent of this one, it smells just like fresh figs and was a perfect scent for summer. I also love the formula of Korres shower gels and how nice they feel on the skin, not at all drying. I have a couple more of these mini bottles and a million other shower gels to use first, but I would buy this one again, probably next summer or spring.

balance Me Super Toning Body Wash - I really like the formula of balance Me shower gels as they lather up really well but aren't drying. While I liked the scent of this one I prefer the rose version which I already have so I probably wont buy this again.

Burberry Body Perfume - I am so sad to see this perfume empty! It's my favourite at the moment and the one I get the most compliments and what perfume are you wearing questions when wearing it. I want to finish at least another full size perfume before I buy this again. I don't like to have too many perfumes at one time as they do go off.

Nip + Fab Mango Smoothie Body Butter - I really liked the scent of this body butter when I first used it, it reminded me of mango sherbet. The more I used it though the more I hated the scent. Luckily it was only a small tub as I don't think I could have finished the full size. I really liked the body butter itself so I've already bought the pistachio version.

Soap & Glory Pulp Friction Body Scrub - Despite loving all the other Soap & Glory body scrubs I've tried, I really didn't like this one. I bought it because so many people raved about it but I really should have just stuck with the Breakfast Scrub or Sugar Crush. I liked the scent in the shop but the more I used it, the more I hated it. By the end of the tube, I really couldn't stand the scent. It also wasn't a very good scrub. I liked that it turned foamy on the skin but the actual scrub particles were tiny. I definitely will not be buying this one again.

Philip Kingsley Moisture Extreme Conditioner - I really liked this conditioner and it made a massive difference to how soft my hair felt and I noticed less frizz when I used it. I will be buying the full size once I've finished the other conditioners I have.

Moroccan Oil Dry Scalp Treatment Oil - This is another one that I'm sad to see finished as it doesn't seem to be available on Feel Unqiue anymore so I'll have to find another place to sell it. I apply this all over my scalp a few hours before I'm washing my hair, sometimes the day before so I leave it on over night, and let the oil soak in. This makes a huge difference to dry patches and I'll be buying another bottle as soon as possible.

Philip Kingsley Flaky/Itchy Scalp Toner - This is another one that I bought the full size of even before finishing the product. This is another product that has made a huge difference to how my scalp feels. I've noticed a lot less dry patches and my scalp is definitely less itchy. I'm so glad I tried this! I also really like the whole process of applying it as the coldness of the toner really helps to soothe my scalp.

Barefoot Rosa Fina Intensive Eye Serum - This is called an eye serum but to me it just felt like a normal eye cream, perhaps just a little bit lighter. It's nothing like the Espa eye serum which is really runny. I did like this one and enjoyed using it but I much prefer the eye cream from balance Me.

Sally Hansen Winter Funderland Real Nail Polish Strips - What surprised me the most about these nail strips was how easy it was to remove despite the glitter. I simply used the Bourjois nail polish remover pot and only had to pick a couple of the larger pieces of glitter off with my nails. They also lasted a decent amount of time before I got bored of the pattern. I'm going to buy some more once I've used the other pattern I have.

Charles Worthington Moisture Seal Mineral Hair Rescue Masque - I saw this in Boots a couple of months back and thought I'd try it as it was only a couple of pounds. This would be perfect for traveling as I got two uses out of it and it actually closes with a tiny lid. The hair mask itself is great and made my hair feel incredibly soft. I have a million and one other hair masks to get through but I'd definitely buy this again and look to see if a full size is available, which I'm sure there is.

Figs & Rouge Balm - This technically isn't an empty as it's hardly been used but I'm throwing it away. I've had it for well over a year and stupidly haven't touched it since as I really liked it the few times I tried it. The scent has disappeared which is usually a sign a product has gone off. Once I've gone through my huge lip balm collection, I might buy this one again and actually use it, it was a really nice multi use balm.

Lush Popcorn Lip Scrub - Oh how I hated this product! I am so glad to see this empty and that I don't have to force myself to use it anymore. I spent £6 on it so I didn't want to throw it away despite how much I hated it. As far as the product itself goes, it was ok. It was a bit on the dry side so the sugar didn't stick to the lips very well. It did make them very smooth though but it was the scent/taste I didn't like. I like popcorn, I like salted popcorn and I like sweet popcorn so I thought I'd love this but I was wrong. I wont be buying a different flavour, instead I'm going to try one from another brand.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish - I had one use left in this tube and it's been sitting at the back of my cupboard unused so this was an easy one to finish. This used to by holy grail cleanser and I used it for about 5 years but for some reason I just don't like it as much anymore. I don't know if it's because they've changed the formula slightly or if it's my own skin that has changed but I'm finding it a struggle to finish up the couple of travel sized tubes I have left. Once they're all finished I don't think I'll be buying another tube again for a while.

Tresemme Platinum Strength 60 Second Treatment Shot* - I've wanted to try this hair treatment for such a long time but it was always sold out but I finally got it in a Glossybox. I got two uses out of the tube but I do have very long hair so if yours was shorter, you'd probably get three or four. I was really impressed with it, it made my hair feel and look extremely soft and you only have to leave it on for 60 seconds. I have a million other hair masks to use but I will be buying a tube in the future.

Caudalie Vinotherapie Hand & Nail Cream - I am so sad to see this hand cream empty! I used it up so quickly as I loved it so much. I kept it in my desk at work and was constantly applying it throughout the day and it's really helped the dryness and eczema on my hands. No matter how much you apply, it doesn't feel greasy and sinks in really well. I also loved the scent! I've already bought the grapefruit version but I will keep on buying them. I wish you could get it in a bigger tube although this size is perfect for your bag.

Maybelline The Rocket Volume Express mascara - I really didn't like this mascara and included it in my disappointing products post. I liked how black it was and the formula but it was the brush that I didn't like. I always prefer plastic wands to brushes so thought I'd like this one. I'm glad I tried it so now I know I don't like it.

Sally Hansen Maximum Growth Cuticle & Nail Treatment - This was another product that only had a couple of uses left, can you see a pattern forming? I buy a product and use it a lot but once I buy something newer it gets pushed to the back of my stash. This is perfect to keep in your handbag or at your desk as the packaging means no mess. It also has a lovely almond/marzipan scent! I would buy another one of these but I already have an OPI version which is very similar.

E.L.F Lash & Brow Clear Mascara - Despite how cheap this is, I think about £1.50, it works really well at holding my eyebrows in place all day without adding any colour. I used both sides on my eyebrows and they worked the same despite one being for your eye lashes. I would buy this again but I'll probably just pick a clear mascara up from Boots as I don't want to pay shipping for just one E.L.F product.

NOTD: Essie Go Ginza

Supplies used...
Orly Bonder Base Coat
Essie Go Ginza // two coats
Nubar Diamont Top Coat

If you look at my nail polish collection you'll see a lot of these pastel pinks with a hint of purple. It's the hint of colour without being too in your face that I love. Essie does these shades of nail so well and Go Ginza is no exception.

Go Ginza was from the Spring 2013 collection which I managed to grab for £1.99 from Fragrance Direct. Although not available at the moment they have just added other polishes to the site.

Despite leaving each layer to dry for 10 minutes while I watched Bates Motel there was still some bubbling. I'm putting this down to the base coat and not the Essie polish. Application was great especially with the wide diffusion brush and the second coat evened everything out nicely.

Project Sample Use Up 010

Calvin Klein Euphoria Perfume - I actually really liked this perfume but would never have thought to try it had it not been in a magazine. I really want to try and finish a couple more full size perfumes before I buy a new one but I'll be keeping a note of this one.

Balm Balm Relax Bath & Shower Oil - I was surprised to find that you can only buy this size and a larger one isn't available. It's £6 for 5ml which is expensive when you can only get two uses out of it. I did like it though as it was a lot more moisturising than the Espa bath oils but I wont be buying another one.

Doublebase Emollient Bath Additive x2 - Although this bath additive worked well, it wasn't as moisturising as the Oilatum version so I wouldn't buy the full size.

Dermol 600 Bath Emollient - I quite liked this version but again, it isn't as good as Oilatum which I'll probably buy a bottle of at some point.

balance Me Rose Otto Body Wash - I love the rose scent of this shower gel and the formula of this one is great as well. I already have the full size so no need to buy another one just yet.

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle Leave In-Conditioner - I found this leave in conditioner to be ok, I wasn't a huge fan of the scent or how it applied though. It's in a spray bottle but it's more of a cream so it doesn't go on evenly. I'll be sticking to the leave in conditioner I'm using at the moment I think which is a Philip Kingsley one.

Liz Earle Energising Body Wash - This is another shower gel that I love and really need to buy a full size bottle! It feels very luxurious on the skin and lathers nicely. The scent is perfect for the mornings too.

Espa Energising Bath Oil - I'm so sad to have finished another bottle of Espa bath oil as it means I only have one left. I will be buying a full size but I just have to decide which scent to go for. Although these aren't as moisturising as the Balm Balm version, they are still very moisturising.

Beauty Box: Birchbox October 2013

birchbox monthly beauty subscription october rottenotter rotten otter blog
KMS California Curl Up Wave Foam // UltraDEX Wire Free Interdental Brushes // Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser in Nude // The Balm Stainiac Lip And Cheek Stain // Dr Lipp Original Nipple Balm For Lips // Akane Mask Cocoon Nocturne // Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream.

This months Birchbox is a bit of a mixed one for me. There's a couple of let downs, mainly the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser which despite being the second lightest shade, it's still way too orange for me. Another disappointing product is the Dr Lipp lip balm which I've already tried and wasn't a fan of. Since I haven't opened these two I'm going to put them in my giveaway box as I know someone else would like them. Also the tooth brushes, sure I'll use them but in a beauty box? I would have preferred a perfume sample.

The lip and cheek stain from The Balm is a bit of a ok product as it's exactly the same as Benefit's Benetint which I already have. Would have been great otherwise but I do like that it's a gel formula which is a lot easier to apply on the lips.

Onto the better products and the one I was most excited to see was three sachets of the Egyptian Magic moisturiser. Thanks Birchbox for including more than one sachet so we can actually try it out properly! I'm intrigued by the face mask as it's a hydrating one you leave on over night, could it be similar to the Origins version? I'm also excited to see how the wave foam mousse from KMS works as I have curly/wavy hair.

NOTD: Models Own Grace Green

Supplies used...
CND Stickey Base Coat
Models Own Grace Green // two coats
Nails Inc Caviar Top Coat

Models Own Grace Green is one of my favourite polishes, I love the colour and the formula is great. Since I've had my bottle for a long time it's slightly thickened in formula which means I can actually get away with only one coat of polish if I'm careful when applying it. I still like to apply two coats though as I find it lasts better on my nails.

Grace Green is meant to be a dupe for Chanel Khaki Vert and from looking at photos online it looks like a pretty good one. If you want to save some pennies and get a better formula pick the Models Own version!
